Volity Records was born to make Rock music relevant again. Modern culture and popular music today are infused with many genres that simply do not have the same edge and impact that Rock ‘n’ Roll has had on the collective consciousness of society in the past.
Many critics in the 21st Century have now declared that “Rock is dead.” Volity Records is a response to those people to say, “No it is not.” What is needed is a new direction...
While Krautrock gained emergence in the late 1960s and early ‘70s in Germany, and is more electronically-based “kosmische musik”, Cosmic Rock is the idea of a more guitar-driven and American (and beyond) Rock ‘n’ Roll counterpart.
Both genres utilize cosmic themes that may include synthesizer and other Electronic directions, but Krautrock is by nature much less traditionally oriented and may not include any guitar or other arrangements that tend to come to mind when one thinks of “Rock music”. Cosmic Rock is taking what Krautrock started but bringing the “Rock music” element more thoroughly into it.
This genre takes the inner journeys of the mind of Psychedelia, the outer-space explorations and otherwordliness of Space Rock, the droning repetition, drum machines, loops, and synthesizers of Krautrock, and streamlines it with the driving directedness of Hard Rock.
This driving, harder directedness is what distinguishes the genre from the others mentioned, which tend to float into a more droning, ambient space and stay there. Cosmic Rock does utilize these spaces, however.
The Occult may also play a role in this genre with its ideas of “as above, so below.” Lucid dreaming, extraterrestrials, ancient civilizations, time travel, other dimensions, and anything “out of the ordinary” or paranormal may also be themes of this music.
To find and promote the most original artists and bands, particularly in the Rock ‘n’ Roll umbrella; a special focus will be on finding artists that fall into the Cosmic Rock genre.
However, Cosmic Rock is an idea that builds off of other ideas, as previously mentioned. If your music does not exactly fit this sound or idea, you are not necessarily excluded. Other subgenres will also be explored for this Label.
Other sounds and genres may also be considered. If your sound is authentic and original, that matters. If you have a rebellious edge to your delivery, that will not go unnoticed.
Cosmosaic is the first artist of Volity Records. Founded on the premise of taking Rock into new directions based on the Post-2012 Baktun of the Mayan Long Count Calendar, the latest project, entitled “Holy Madness”, is themed around subjects of the Occult. Mixed in with these dark tones are hypnotic textures and instrumentation that have otherworldly, cosmic elements.
